i21C is a website dedicated to providing academic and intellectual discourse as well as committed to the research and analysis of contemporary issues facing Muslims in the West.

Commonly it has been held that classical Islam is at varied odds with modernity and that this ‘medieval’ way of life cannot be realised in contemporary society. However, i21C seeks to show that Islam is a comprehensive world view incorporating a way of life, a system of belief with complex metaphysics, a 1400 year old history and an extensive and divine system of law. We sincerely believe that the introduction and explication of such a world view has not been afforded a just amount of time due to bias fuelled by the media as well as the lack of effort by the Muslim community. Thus, we seek to envisage a classical, orthodox, and traditional Islam in contemporary Western society, with the aim to highlight, critically analyse, and systematically educate the masses by way of providing insightful commentary and exploring key themes.

i21C is the official website that acts as the portal of output for the research wing (iResearch) of MRDF. It publishes academic papers and articles using the principles of Islam as a source of governance and guidance. iResearch is dedicated to presenting a more lucid and confident Muslim voice on various topics. MRDF believes that Islam has a great deal to offer Britain and that a clearer and more equal exchange of ideas will lead to a flourishing of the quality of life in Britain for Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

The Muslim Research and Development Foundation (MRDF) is a cooperative venture run by a number of leading Muslim scholars, Imams, thinkers, and professionals from a variety of backgrounds. With its two main fields identified as research and development, the foundation commenced its operation in 2002 and was awarded official charity status in 2007.

The foundation strives to articulate Islam in a modern context and address the unique situation and challenges faced by Muslims in the West. An integral focus as a means to this end is the study, analysis, and presentation of classical Islamic scholarship and its contemporary application.
